Plus the opportunity to spend time in worship, and at the Cross Section Cafe.

January Cross Section

We are having the first Cross Section of 2009 on Sun Jan 25th at Union Baptist Church. When Helen Baker from St Ann's and St Peter's, and also All Saints, will be speaking to us about New Beginnings.

Christmas Cross-Section

A small group of us met at the Salvation Army Hall in Frogmore last night to celebrate Christmas and really get to grips with the story. The young people were invited to journey through the story and putting themselves in the shoes of Zachariah, Mary, Joseph, the Shepherds and the Wise Men by inteacting with various Angels, the Inn Keeper and King Herod.

It was really interesting to be able to walk our way through the story and try to imagine what it must have been like to be these character that we know so well. The story really came alive and we were able to think all about the positions that each character found themselves in.

We concluded the evening with Carols, led by the worship group from Paul's church in Slough, and a retelling of the story - basically an unconventional lessons and carols combination!

Christmas Cross-Section

We are having a special Christmas Cross-Section on FRIDAY 12th December 2008 at 7.30 at the Salvation Army, High Wycombe. Come along and Experience Christmas in a new and interactive way.

Examen

At Cross-Section on Sunday we introduced the young people to the Examen. Sarah Brush led the young people through this reflection back on the day with some inspiration from (Jenny &) Jonny Baker's Worship tricks.

It's a very simple mode of night time prayer which St Ignatius used to round off the day.

Simply...

• You relax and breathe calmly
• Remember you are in God's presence
• You reflect back on the day
• You ask yourself two questions:

What are you most thankful for today?
What do you regret most that happened today?

• You conclude by thanking God for the day and all that has happened and listen to anything God has to say about it.

Cross-Country!

You know when you've been Banjoed

We had a fantastic Cross-Section at St Birinus & St John's (Banjo's) Booker site!

Although there was some uncertainty from young people about being divided in two directions at the start, it was clear that they got a lot out of exploring one room focussed on LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR PASSION, PRAYER, ENERGY AND INTELLIGENCE and another room focussed on LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR AS YOU LOVE YOURSELF.

There was a Third World Room, a prayer pool for floating candles, a see-through graffitti wall helping people look at things from both ways, a hand tree where people offered the gifts they can use to serve God, puzzles that led to bible passages, images of God that helped young people reflect on their perceptions of God as well as the cafe and the adult creche.

Cross-Section

Objectives of Cross-section

Our Objectives for Cross-section are to:

• provide a space where the young people are free to express themselves without fear or ridicule
• explore expressions of creative prayer and worship i.e. labyrinth, painting, different forms of music
• have a medium that is movable and that has familiarity in multiple venues
• have adults journeying with young people as they build and deepen their relationship with God
• encourage young people to take part in and have ownership of activities
• provide space for Ecumenical relationships developing the churches into a united community

The Vision for Cross-section

Wyde’s vision for Cross-section is to provide the young people with a space where they are free to explore, and develop their relationship with God, in a safe environment. We would look to host a bi-monthly gathering that has the ability to travel round and visit a number of churches in and around the Wycombe area. Supporting both the larger churches with big youth ministries and also those who are smaller and who would appreciate the encouragement of a large group of young people descending on them. It would therefore have to be a very versatile thing, with the ability to fit into the differing church spaces in the area; from the traditional with fixed pews and altars, right through to the modern flexible spaces. We will seek to include familiar elements at every meeting, so that there is continuity between gatherings.

The emphasis for Cross-section will be on meeting with God and worshipping God through the creative. We will therefore seek to use forms of worship across the whole creative spectrum; using art, meditation, prayer, silence, songs, candles, monastic traditions, music, and a whole host of other imaginative practices. We will also seek to teach and disciple through Cross-section, again this will be in creative and engaging ways.

We will look to empower young people to be involved in the planning and orchestrating of Cross-section, giving them opportunities to grow and develop their gifts.

One of the main emphases of Cross-section will be that of relationship, getting along side the young people and journeying with them in their faith. It will provide opportunities for churches to open the doors of their buildings and hearts to young people.

The proposed dates for Cross-section in 2007 are

• 30th September
• 25th November
