January Cross Section

We are having the first Cross Section of 2009 on Sun Jan 25th at Union Baptist Church. When Helen Baker from St Ann's and St Peter's, and also All Saints, will be speaking to us about New Beginnings.

Wyde Detached Team has Been Out and About

Over the last term the Wyde Detached team has once again been hitting the Streets. Helen (All Saints Church Youthworker), Paul (Youth for Christ Youthworker) and Matt (Union Baptist Church Youthworker) have been in the town centre on Tuesday afternoons.

Its been great to meet different young people hanging around at the new skate park, or just around the Town Centre. Over the past couple of weeks we have been handing out sweets and Happy Christmas wishes. Its been great to see the reaction of the young people and has enabled us to get to meet a lot more.



We are hoping that in the New Year we will be able to get to know some of the young people who we are starting to see regularly and even try and do some kind of project work with them.

If you see us around do come and say "hello!"

Christmas Cross-Section

A small group of us met at the Salvation Army Hall in Frogmore last night to celebrate Christmas and really get to grips with the story. The young people were invited to journey through the story and putting themselves in the shoes of Zachariah, Mary, Joseph, the Shepherds and the Wise Men by inteacting with various Angels, the Inn Keeper and King Herod.

It was really interesting to be able to walk our way through the story and try to imagine what it must have been like to be these character that we know so well. The story really came alive and we were able to think all about the positions that each character found themselves in.

We concluded the evening with Carols, led by the worship group from Paul's church in Slough, and a retelling of the story - basically an unconventional lessons and carols combination!

Christmas Cross-Section

We are having a special Christmas Cross-Section on FRIDAY 12th December 2008 at 7.30 at the Salvation Army, High Wycombe. Come along and Experience Christmas in a new and interactive way.

Cross Section in February

In February Cross Section meets at St Anne's church on the London Road (opposite the retail park). There is a traffice light controlled pedestrian crossing near the church. Please do use this is you are dropped off or park in the retail park.

We'll be looking at CHURCH and what it means to be a Christian community.

The Next Chapter

Fabulous evening last night. Even though Bishop John couldn't make it to join us because of some trouble on the roads, we had a great time exploring what it means to be a Christian. the evening included this video so if you missed out, have a look:

November Creativity: Words & Pictures

We had different workshop sessions at Cross-Section last night which produced some fantastic things.

The WORDZ session challenged young people to write a psalm or write some new lyrics for the song You are Holy which we've used at most Cross-Section evenings.

Here are the new words for the verse from Belinda and Richard

Can't nobody do it like Jesus

We had a fabulous Cross-Section last night with the young people from the choir and dance team of Ruach ministries. First they sang and danced for us and then thye got all the young people (and us oldies too!) involved in learning three parts of the one of the songs and three sections of their street dance.

It was amazing to see the young people opening up to this new type of worship and the adult creche were totally transfixed by it all.

Pastor Mark also delivered a brilliant message which was really challenging. So challenging that, although we'd said we wouldn't have a Cross-Section in October, we're now looking for a venue so we can follow up on such a great night.

September's Cross-Section will be held at Union Baptist Church on the 30th September.

We are going to be exploring how we can persevere in our relationship with God.

We will also be exploring how we can worship God to togther through Gospel music and Street dance, and will be joined by young people from Ruach Ministries, Brixton, who will teach us how. Check them out at http://www.ruach-ministries.co.uk/

Examen

At Cross-Section on Sunday we introduced the young people to the Examen. Sarah Brush led the young people through this reflection back on the day with some inspiration from (Jenny &) Jonny Baker's Worship tricks.

It's a very simple mode of night time prayer which St Ignatius used to round off the day.

Simply...

• You relax and breathe calmly
• Remember you are in God's presence
• You reflect back on the day
• You ask yourself two questions:

What are you most thankful for today?
What do you regret most that happened today?

• You conclude by thanking God for the day and all that has happened and listen to anything God has to say about it.
